In March, 2010, board member Michael Weisenburger attended the Creating Change Through Family Philanthropy Retreat, held at Edith Macy Conference Center in Briarcliff Manor, New York. The retreat was organized by Resource Generation (www.resourcegeneration.org) and brought together approximately forty next-generation board members who are involved in social, environmental and economic justice issues with the overall focus on where they would like to direct their foundations giving/investing over the next ten years.
There were two days of concurrent workshops that discussed various topics dealing with mission related investing, family legacy, working across generational gaps, international grantmaking and involving community members in one’s family foundation. The workshops were guided by several organizations including 21/64, The Calvert Fund, Ananda Foundation and Janine Lee of the Southern Partners Fund. The retreat was both educational and inspiring. Participants left with new connections and new perspectives on how they will involve themselves in the future of their family foundations.
